About Paediatric Neurology

Paediatric Neurology is the area of medicine that looks after children with problems involving the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, muscles and nerves.

Paediatric neurologists treat children from birth to young adulthood. They have had training in paediatrics and neurology.

Paediatric neurologists diagnose, treat and manage children with headaches, migraine, seizures, epilepsy, weakness, neurofibromatosis and medical aspects of head injuries and brain tumours.

Paediatric neurologists combine their expertise in managing children with disorders of the nervous system with an understanding of the medical disorders in childhood and the special needs of a child and his or her family.

Often paediatric neurologists work as part of a team to manage children with more complex or serious problems. Other members of the team include the GP, the paediatrician and other paediatric specialists.
